Meet the Baby Whales
Every winter, gray whales migrate over 5,000 miles from the icy waters of Alaska to the calm, protected lagoons of Laguna Ojo de Liebre, Mexico and it’s here that many of them give birth.
These newborn gray whales, or calves, spend their first few months of life in the safety of the lagoon, learning to breathe, nurse, and grow strong for their long journey north. During this time, they often stay close to their mothers, but it’s not unusual to see them approach boats out of curiosity sometimes even before the adults do!
